Have you ever run into a task that you didn’t want to complete? It probably felt good to put off that work for a while.

The idea is simple. If you procrastinate for long enough, you won’t need to put in the effort to complete an unwanted task. 

Instead of waiting for tomorrow to get stuff done, here are some steps to consider to end procrastination for good.

What Are the Best Ways to Stop Procrastination?

1. Focus on why you’re doing something.

Procrastination focuses on short-term goals instead of long-term results. Think about why you’re doing a specific task and review the benefits that come from completing it. 

2. Stop with the catastrophes.

People tend to make a big deal out of nothing. A task might be tedious, complex, or painful. Whatever the excuse tends to be, the result is a thought that feels unbearable. The reality is that none of those issues will cause permanent harm or make you sick.

3. Create a plan.

Procrastination happens a lot when an enormous task requires completion. The thought of doing everything feels overwhelming, so why bother even trying? If you create small, doable chunks, you’ll get closer to the finish line each time.

4. Take a realistic approach.

Most projects take more time than expected, which means we need to get used to overtime periods. If you don’t like mornings, it’s an unreasonable expectation to get up an hour earlier to get stuff done. It’d be better to schedule the task after lunch or dinner when your energy levels are higher.

Procrastination is essentially a series of excuses. Choice justification is a side effect of that thinking process. When you’re honest with yourself, you’ll know that now is the best time to get something done.
